Playoff Action Starts for Esports

MEQUON, Wis. - The CUW esports program saw its Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege, and League of Legends teams compete in playoffs while the NBA 2K and Call of Duty teams wrapped up their regular season.

In the week, the esports program posted a combined record of 3-4.

The Falcons and the Super Smash Bros Ultimate team advanced to the semifinals after a convincing 2-0 win against the Jimmies of Jamestown. The Blue and White will have their season continue next and will look to advance to the finals.

NBA 2K moved up the regular season standings after handing the Elmira College Eagles a 3-0 loss.

Also wrapping up their regular season was the Call of Duty team, who faced the 6-1 Mars Hill University. Despite their best efforts, the Blue and White fell to MHU 3-0.

Rainbow Six Siege saw their season end in the first round of the NECC playoffs, as Oklahoma Christian University bested the Falcons with a 2-0 victory.

Meanwhile, the Valorant squad's playoff run was stopped in the Quarterfinals in a close loss to Purdue.

The League of Legends team also took a 2-0 loss to end their playoff run.

"We had a hard season. We still had multiple teams qualify for playoffs, and having such a young roster on so many of these teams is great. We already have our eyes set on next season and improvements we need to make during the break," said head coach Jack Slater.

The Falcons SSBU team will continue their playoff run, while the other teams will resume competition in 2024.
