ACHA Men's Hockey scares Adrian in the season opener

MEQUON, Wis. -  The CUW ACHA hockey program opened the season with a 5-2 victory over the Adrian College Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. Picking up the first victory over Adrian in program history.

After the Falcons killed off their first two penalties of the day, Adrian was able to score on the power play off a rebound.

The Falcons took advantage of a five-on-three advantage when junior Matt Gregor (Ashland, Wis.) scored on the power play off assists from senior Wyatt Wilderman (Bear Dance, Mont.) and sophomore Scott Gregor (Ashland, Wis.).

34 seconds later, freshman John Swiatek (Rochester, N.Y.) scored his first goal at CUW on the power off a pass from freshman Nick Roberts (Milwaukee, Wis.).

Scott Gregor extended the lead with a point-blank shot that was fed in from freshman Nick Morch (Barrington, Ill.) and a long pass from Matt Gregor.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring to start the third period, but it would be all CUW from there.

Matt Gregor pushed the lead back to two points with a power-play goal in front of the net with the assists going to senior Cody Faber (Wilmot, Wis.) and Scott Gregor.

Sophomore Connor Doyle (Naples, Fla.) was able to scoop the puck over the Adrian netminder for the final goal of the day off assists from freshman Kyle Christian (Antioch, Ill.) and freshman Dylan Tschabold (Solothurn, Switzerland).

Senior Dakota Delbridge (Tracy, Calif.) was solid for the Falcons in the net with 42 saves on the afternoon.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday in Michigan.
