A Look Back at the Shooting Sports Season

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW shooting sports team posted another strong season during the 2021-22 season.

The Falcons opened the year at the Fall Classic Action Match in November.

In the Iron Rifle competition, the CUW Blue Team took first with a time of 186.43 seconds.  The CUW White Team took second with 217.07 seconds.

In the Optic Rifle competition, the CUW Blue Team took first once again with a time of 183.97 seconds while the White Team took third with 199.75 seconds.

The Blue Team took second in the Rimfire Iron Pistol and first in the Rimfire Optic Pistol with times of 244.03 and 203.41 seconds respectively.

The White Team took second in the Rimfire Optic Pistol with a time of 308.29 seconds.

In March, the Falcons flew south and competed in the Scholastic Collegiate Nationals.

The Falcons brought home some hardware with two national championship titles in both iron Rifle as well as optic rifle. They also took possession of the Tammy L. Mowry Rifle Cup.

The rifle teams consisted of junior Hank Bell (Saukville, Wis.), senior Nathan Fingeroos (Cedarburg, Wis.), junior Cameron Tietz (Cedarburg, Wis.), and junior Andrew Theiz (Lake Geneva, Wis.). The iron rifle was won with a time of 169.46 seconds and the optic rifle was won with a time of 148.55.

Fingeroos snagged first-place finishes in both iron rifle (30.14 seconds) and optic rifle (29.12 seconds) bringing his college career total to four individual national championships and three team national championships.

The Blue team finished second in PCC, third in rimfire pistol optic, fourth in 1911 and centerfire pistol optic, and eighth in centerfire pistol. Senior Josh Carlson (Chula Vista, Calif.) was also a member of the Blue team for centerfire disciplines.

The White team finished third in iron rifle, fourth in rimfire pistol and rimfire pistol optic, and sixth in optic rifle. The White team consisted of sophomore Alexander Steiner (Kewaskum, Wis.), sophomore William Harr (Great Falls, Mont.), Joshua Carlson, junior Ethan Hribar (Oconomowoc, Wis.), and freshman Mason Schulteis (Kewaskum, Wis.).

The Grey team shot individually and consisted of Ethan Hribar, Mason Schulteis, senior Kurtis Polodna (Dousman, Wis.), and senior Benjamin Hedrick (Fredonia, Wis.).

The Falcons are ready for the 2022-23 season.
