Men’s Track & Field takes third at NACC Championships
KENOSHA, Wis. - The CUW men's track & field team had a systematic approach at the 2019 Northern Athletics Colligate Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship, posting solid performances in both the track and field events. The Falcons finished in third place with 85 points. Benedictine claimed the title with 181 points.
"We coached our athletes all season to prepare for conference and it did not disappoint," said head coach Russ DeLap. "There were a lot of personal records and many great performances. We have some great coaches who did a fantastic job in preparing their athletes for today. Overall, we performed very well and it was an exciting day to be a Falcon."
Senior Grant Johnson (Oconomowoc, Wis.) claimed the NACC title in the pole vault at 4.25 meters.
The second CUW title of the day came in the 5000-meter run in sophomore Craig Reese (Germantown, Wis.). Reese clocked in a winning time of 15:40.57. He also placed second in the 3000-meter run at 9:03.74.
Freshman Gideon Cain (Cedarburg, Wis.) earned the silver medal in the shot put at 13.50 meters. His performance in the ninth-best in program history.
Junior Samual Spranger (Fond du Lac, Wis.) recorded a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash at 49.62. He also placed second in the 200-meter dash at 22.72 with the third-fastest time in school history.
Junior Brandon Wooden (Milwaukee, Wis.) led CUW in the triple jump in fourth place at 12.58 meters and in the long jump in 11th place at 5.72 meters.
Freshman Austin Lopez (Ripon, Wis.) finished in sixth place in the high jump at 1.78 meters. The mark is the 10th best in program history.
Sophomore Brandon Hargis (Henderson, Nev.) was seventh in the weight throw at 12.13 meters.
Sophomore Marquis Thorn (Atlanta, Ga.) crossed the finish line at 6.68 in seventh place in the 55-meter dash, the eighth-fastest time in program history.
The men's distance relay clocked in at 12:36.23 in eighth place.
In the 55-meter hurdles, junior Henry Jensen (Muskego, Wis.) finished in ninth place at 9.16 with the 10th fastest time in program history.
With a ninth-place finish, freshman Jack Kral (Kohler, Wis.) locked in a time of 4:53.04 in the mile run.
In the 800-meter run, freshman William Ebel (Macomb, Mich.) led CUW at 2:06.85 in 12th place.
The Falcons return to action on Friday for select athletes at the Carthage Final Qualifier.
