Men's Tennis drops second straight NACC match, falls to MSOE

MILWAUKEE – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Tennis team was defeated for the second straight time in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play, this time falling against MSOE, Tuesday night, 5-4.

The Falcons had a 30-game NACC regular season winning streak snapped last Saturday against Edgewood. The loss against MSOE moves CUW to 4-2 in conference play, one spot in the loss column behind four teams, including the Raiders and Eagles.

Just like last Saturday, the Falcons dropped two of three in doubles play and split six singles matches for a 5-4 decision. The lone doubles team to win for CUW was the duo of junior Benjamin Nommensen (Waupaca, Wis.) and senior Garrett Wells (Aurora, Ill.), as they escaped with a 9-7 decision.

In singles play, seniors Russell Johnson (Monticello, Minn.) and Skip Turner (Eau Claire, Wis.) gained victories at the No. 1 and 2 positions, respectively. Johnson rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win, while Turner rallied after dropping his first set 3-6, winning each of the final two sets by 6-2 scores.

MSOE picked up wins at No. 3, 5 and 6 singles as Wells was able to come up with a second win of the night at No. 4 singles for the Falcons. Wells won his match over Reeka Delfanian, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.

The Falcons will have just over a week off before visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College for a NACC match next Wednesday, April 23.
