Sewanee slips past CUW in a shootout

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW field hockey program fought hard for 80 minutes on Sunday, but fell in a shootout to Sewanee, 3-2. The Tigers took a 5-4 victory in seven rounds to claim the victory.

Sophomore Megan McPike (Mequon, Wis.) scored in the third minute on a scrum in front of the net off a pass from junior Callie Neumann (Dousman, Wis.).

The Tigers tied the match in the 24th minute.

The Falcons broke the tie on a corner play, where senior Kelsey Fulton (Hartland, Wis.) redirected a shot from senior Sam Dunn (Hartland, Wis.).

Sewanee secured the tying goal in the 51st minute.

The Falcons' defense posted a strong outing on Sunday and kept the Tigers off the scoreboard for the final 30 minutes. Sophomore Katelyn Fitzgerald (Wood River, Ill.) collected 10 saves on Sunday.

CUW took an early lead in the shootout with two goals from Megan McPike and freshman Lorri Pitock (Naperville, Ill.).

With the pressure on, Kelsey Fulton scored to send it into extra rounds.

Megan McPike scored in the sixth round, but the Tigers were successful on their last four shots to win in seven rounds, 5-4.

The Falcons were aggressive on Sunday and forced a season-high 13 penalty corners.

The Blue and White return to action again on Friday at home against Converse.
