Field Hockey to join Southern Athletic Association in 2017

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Southern Athletic Association announced Wednesday the addition of Concordia University Wisconsin as an affiliated field hockey member, beginning with the 2017 season.

"I am very pleased to announce our affiliate membership in the Southern Athletic Association for the sport of field hockey," said CUW Director of Athletics Dr. Rob Barnhill. "The SAA is a perfect fit for us at this time and we believe we can provide their members a very solid partner and an enhanced geographic footprint."

The Falcons will have an opportunity to win the league championship, which consisted of six members during the 2016 season. CUW will also be eligible for all awards associated with field hockey during the upcoming season.

During the Falcons inaugural season in 2016, they played five games against SAA schools. CUW played Transylvania twice while taking on Hendrix, Centre, and 2016 league champion Rhodes once.

"The announcement of joining the SAA is also very vital for our emerging field hockey program as our team will have a consistent schedule and our young women will now be eligible for the SAA Championship and conference awards," stated Barnhill.

Concordia University Wisconsin is located in Mequon, Wisconsin. The Falcons will join Rhodes, Centre, Ferrum, Sewanee, Hendrix, and Transylvania for the 2017 Field Hockey season in the SAA.
