CUW mourns passing of Arnie Garber

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin is saddened by the passing of longtime coach and pioneer for the football program, as Arnie Garber was called to eternal life on Friday.

Garber who was a pioneer in starting the football program at Concordia Wisconsin in 1980 and went on to coach hundreds of men during his nearly four decades as an assistant coach. He helped the Falcons win numerous conference championships, advance to the playoffs countless times and coached dozens of All-Americans.

Garber was was inducted into the Concordia Wisconsin William C. Ackmann Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003. He played fullback and linebacker for the Boston Patriots in the American Football League (AFL) in 1960 and 1961, before the merger between the AFL and National Football League. He was also the long snapper on those Patriots teams.

Garber is probably best known as the original trainer for the Milwaukee Bucks. From 1968-1978, Garber served as the Bucks trainer and earned a National Basketball Association title with the team in 1971.
