Defense does it for Concordia

Rockford

Concordia put together a 9 play 62 yard TD drive on the first Falcon possession but it was Rockford's next two offensive series that set the tone for a 38-0 CUW road win Saturday afternoon.

After the early Concordia score came via a 3 yard TJ Pacchioli scramble, Rockford went backwards in 3 plays and then Jake Arbuckle scooped up their blocked 4th down punt attempt in the end zone to make it 14-0.

The hapless Regents fumbled the ensuing kickoff and it took Greg Etter's forces only one play to score their third touchdown. This one came on a 28 yard pass from Pacchioli to Eric Rusch and made it 21-0 with less than seven minutes elapsed.

CUW got a 23 yard field goal from Dan Winsey and another Pacchioli scoring strike from three yards out to Jacob Pfeiffer to up the count to 31-0 at the half.

The hosts, who had only 137 yards of offense for the entire game, tightened up their defense considerably after halftime but CUW got one final score when Justin Tlachac returned a fumble 33 yards for the final points of the season.

Rusch and Aaron Siekmann combined to catch 8 passes for 131 of the Falcon's 213 yards of offense. Anthony Hoitink and Greg Walker had banner days defensively with seven tackles each. Hoitink added 5 assists, 3 tackles for loss, a pass breakup, and a forced fumble. Concordia- Chicago's upset 15-14 loss to Benedictine gave Lakeland (6-1) the outright NAC Championship. CUW and CU- C tied for second at 5-2 in the league.
