Baseball season comes to an end in NACC Tournament

MEQUON, Wis. – The 2018 Concordia University Wisconsin Baseball season came to a close Saturday as the Falcons dropped a NACC Tournament game against No. 10 Concordia Chicago, 8-2. CUW finished the year with a 23-19 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and added three runs in the third. Concordia Chicago then broke the game open with a four-run sixth inning. The two Falcons runs came in the eighth.

- Cole Carman of Concordia Chicago was the story as the freshman kept CUW off balance for eight innings. Carman allowed just four hits and two runs with one strikeout and one walk. Andrew Gibbons (Markesan, Wis.) took the loss for CUW, throwing five innings.

- Drew Underwager (South Elgin, Ill.), Alex Prickett (Franklin, Wis.), and Scott Plachinski (South Milwaukee, Wis.) all posted scoreless relief appearances for the Falcons with Underwager throwing 1.2 scoreless frames.

- Michael Szeszol (Lake Bluff, Ill.) and Eric Paz (Kenosha, Wis.) doubled in the contest for the Falcons. Kyle Hilliard (Oak Forest, Ill.) and Nathan Thyssen (Kimberly, Wis.) added singles.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The loss closes the careers of an impressive Concordia University Wisconsin senior class. The class of 12 players has helped lead CUW to 99 wins over the past four years, tying them with the 2017 class as the winningest in program history. The senior class was made up of Szeszol, Mario Maldonado, Kyle Washburn, Hilliard, Gibbons, Plachinski, Justin Barney, Thyssen, Matt Luft, Underwager, Eric Dubek, and Dan Ranieri.
