Falcons Sweep Lake Forest

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's volleyball team did not drop a set in the final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday night. The Falcons improved to 6-8 with a 25-23, 25-19, 25-17 victory.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle with 12 ties and four lead changes. The Foresters built an 18-14 lead off a bad set. The Falcons quickly stormed back with a 5-0 run behind the serve of junior Abby Proefrock (Grafton, Wis.). Both teams exchanged blows to finish the set and were tied at 23. The Foresters gave the Falcons the lead and a service ace from Emma Essex (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) capped the set at 25-23.

The teams once again fought tooth and nail in the second set with neither team able to gain much separation. The Falcons pushed the lead to 12-9 with a kill from sophomore Skylar Kumprey (New Berlin, Wis.), but the Foresters regrouped and took a 19-17 advantage. The Falcons soared with the serve of Abby Proefrock and closed the set on an 8-0 run. Sophomore Emily Dickmann (Grafton, Wis.) had two kills in the final eight points of the set.

The Falcons led wire-to-wire in the third set as the serve of freshman Josie Peterson (Waupaca, Wis.) set up the Falcons with an early 3-0 lead. The biggest lead of the set came at 14-5 with a kill from junior Paige Stickney (Menomonee Falls, Wis.).

Paige Stickney led the match with 10 kills on Tues and hit .556 against the Foresters.

Freshman Jordan Casey (Chandler, Ariz.) collected a career-best 11 assists in the victory.

Abby Profrock led the flock with three service aces and 13 digs.

Noelle Smith led the CUW block party with six blocks against Lake Forest.

The Falcons resume Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Thursday at Lakeland.
