Women’s Track & Field opens outdoor season at Point Loma

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Falcons opened the 2019 outdoor season under the California sun at the Point Loma Nazarene Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Blue and White finished in 11th place with 48 points.

Sophomore Megan Curran (Spring Grove, Ill.) placed fifth in the discus throw at 36.54 meters and in the shot put at 11.05 meters. She also notched a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw at 37.31 meters.

Freshman Jordyn Schmidt (Manitowoc, Wis.) led CUW in the high jump in seventh place at 1.42 meters.

The Falcons finished ninth in the 400-meter relay. The team of sophomore Megan Sprinkman (Kohler, Wis.), freshman Nyede Thiam (Grayslake, Ill.), freshman Anastasia Hoeg (New Berlin, Wis.) and senior Irene Bolis (Marengo, Ill.) clocked in at 51.56.

Irene Bolis and Anastasia Hoeg clocked in right next to each other in the 100-meter hurdles. Bolis placed 12th at 16.47 and Hoeg crossed the finish line at 16.96 in 13th place.

Megan Sprinkman finished 23rd in the 100-meter dash at 13.35.

Freshman Emma Verbeke (Appleton, Wis.) led the flock in the 800-meter run in 39th place at 2:42.97.

Freshman Hannah Brandenstein (Oconomowoc, Wis.) led a back-to-back CUW finish in the 1500-meter run in 57th place at 5:54.30. Freshman Hannah Secor (Marengo, Ill.) finished right behind at 5:56.20

The Falcons return to action on Saturday back in Wisconsin at The Carroll Invite.
