Women’s Track & Field opens year at Early Bird Invite

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The CUW women's track & field team opened the year at the UW-Oshkosh Early Bird Invite. The Falcons finished in third place with 47 points. The host Titans won with 211.5 points, Carroll finished in second place.

Sophomore Megan Sprinkman (Kohler, Wis.) finished in fourth place in the 60-meter dash at 8.55. Freshman Ndeye Thiam (Grayslake, Ill.) was in 11th place at 8.66.

Sprinkman also placed seventh in the 200-meter dash at 29.25. Freshman Sarah Dekker (Milwaukee, Wis.) led a flock of Falcons that finished 10th through 12th.

Senior Morgan Marnholtz (Merrill, Wis.) finished in third place in the 400-meter dash. Dekker crossed the finish line in seven place at 1:07.15 and junior Kathryn Schultz (Fredonia, Wis.) was eighth.

In the 60-meter hurdles, senior Irene Bolis (Marengo, Ill.) placed sixth at 10.29.

Junior Nicole Veldhorst (Cedar Grove, Wis.) and freshman Jordyn Schmidt (Manitowoc, Wis.) finished at 4-9 on the high jump, to finish tied for fifth place. Freshman Kelsey Koepke (Franklin, Wis.) cleared 4-5 in 11th place.

Senior Jennifer Miller (Freedom, Wis.) was second at the pole vault at 9-11 ¾. Her second-place finish was the highest of the day for CUW.

In the triple jump, Morgan Marnholtz placed fourth at 31-11 ¼. Nicole Veldhorst was in fifth place at 30-8 ¼.

Freshman Alyssa Knier (Reedsville, Wis.) led the Falcons at shot put at 34-11 ¾. Knier landed in 11th place. Sophomore Megan Curran (Spring Grove, Ill.) finished the day in 16th place.

In the weight throw, Megan Curran finished third at 51-4 ¼. Junior Joleen Gravelle (St. Croix Falls, Wis.) threw a toss of 39-1 to finish in 17th place and senior Chloe Eckstein (Reedsville, Wis.) followed behind in 19th place.

The Falcons will take a month off and return to action on Jan. 11 in the Great Lakes State for the Bob Eubanks Open at Grand Valley State.
