
Women's Tennis Opens ITA Play in Minnesota
SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's tennis team opened play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships and the Midwest Invite on Friday. CUW had one representative at the ITA Regionals and six competed at the Midwest Invite.
In the ITA Midwest Regional Singles Championships, senior Peyton Morgan (Arlington Heights, Ill.) fell to Sasha Manojlovic of Carthage, 6-0, 6-4.
The Falcons' most successful showing came at draw one of the Midwest Invite Doubles Tournament. Peyton Morgan and freshman Ruth Dolde (Fort Wayne, Ind.) defeated Concordia Moorhead 8-5 and then topped Wisconsin-Superior in the second round, 8-5.
In draw two, sophomore Morgan Chyla (Salem Lakes, Wis.) and sophomore Payton Steward (Appleton, Wis.) were edged by St. Olaf, 8-3.
St. Olaf also snuck past junior Abby Schwartz (Brookfield, Wis.) and freshman Katelyn de Guzman (Belvidere, Ill.) at draw three, 8-5.
Morgan Chyla competed in the draw one at the Midwest Open but lost to Claire Kimman of Concordia Moorhead, 3-6, 6-1, 10-5.
Victoira Rizzo of Carthage clipped Katelyn de Guzman in draw four, 6-0, 6-1.
At draw five, Niki Manojlovic topped Payton Steward, 6-2, 6-1.
Ruth Dolde fell short against Maria Sosa of St. Scholastica at draw seven, 6-1, 6-0.
Abby Schwartz sank Greta Laurel of Macalester in draw eight, 6-4, 6-2 but lost to Caroline Hutchinson of Loras, 6-2, 6-3.
The Falcons close the competition on Saturday.
