Women’s Tennis closes ITA play in Minnesota

ST. PETER, Minn. – The CUW women's tennis team competed at the 2019 ITA Midwest Regional Championships on Saturday.

The Falcons had three compete in the ITA Consolation Singles Bracket.

Senior Rebecca Spiegelhoff (Mount Pleasant, Wis.) was topped by Picard of Edgewood, 6-1, 6-2.

Sophomore Mia Andrae (Cedarburg, Wis.) was edged by Edgewood's Heineman, 6-4, 6-2.

Sophomore Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) started the day with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over St. Olaf's Ruhrick. She then fell just short to Coe's Potockova, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 11-9.

CUW had two teams in the ITA Consolation Doubles bracket.

Rebekah Spiegelhoff and Mia Andrae lost to St. Olaf's Ottenson and Prokosch, 8-3.

Ricki Budewitz and freshman Julia Vitale (Elm Grove, Wis.) defeated UW-Whitewater's Bigelow and Bigelow, 8-6. They then fell to St. Kate's Walker and Knoll, 8-3.

The Blue and White also competed in the Gustavus Fall Invite.

Freshman Heidea Vaudt (Rockford, Ill.) fell to Wenxia Sweeney of Coe in the Draw No. 5 consolation championship, 8-1.

Freshman Antonina Sanna (Clinton Township, Mich.) rallied to defeat Emma Barnd of Wis.-Eau Claire in the Draw No. 8 championship, 3-6, 6-3, 10-2.

In the Doubles Draw No. 1, sophomore Jennifer Mies (Brookfield, Wis.) and sophomore Elizabeth Johnson (Hubertus, Wis.) competed against Emma Gaydos and Sara Amano of Grinnell. The results were not posted at the time of the story.

The Falcons resume NACC action on Tuesday at Marian.
