Women’s Tennis edges IlT in key NACC match

CHICAGO, Ill. – The CUW women's tennis team walked away victories in a key NACC matchup on Saturday at Illinois Tech. In a rematch of the 2019 NACC Tournament Semifinals, the Falcons claimed a 5-4 victory. The victory sends CUW to 4-1 and 2-0 in the NACC.

The Scarlet Hawks struck first on Saturday at No. 2 doubles.

Sophomore Jennifer Mies (Brookfield, Wis.) and freshman Antonina Sanna (Clinton Township, Mich.) tied the match with an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Sophomore Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and freshman Julia Vitale (Elm Grove, Wis.) edged IIT at No. 1 doubles 8-6 to give the Blue and White the lead.

After a loss at No. 3 singles, senior Rebekah Spiegelhoff (Mount Pleasant, Wis.) gave CUW the lead again with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sarah Oshana at No. 6 singles.

Antonina Sanna then sank Sophia Nelson at No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-1.

Julia Vitale secured the victory with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Allyson Trang at No. 5 singles.

The Scarlet Hawks closed the match with victories on courts one and two.

The victory keeps the Falcons atop of the NACC standings and alone at 2-0 in the NACC at the time this story was published.

The Falcons return to play on Saturday, when they host Concordia Chicago and Dominican.
