Women’s Tennis splits Saturday

LISLE, Ill. – The CUW Falcons split action on Saturday to move to 2-1 on the year. The Blue and White downed the reigning American Rivers Conference champions in Wartburg, 6-3. The host Cardinals of North Central were unkind to the Falcons and defeated CUW, 9-0.

The Falcons dominated doubles play against the Knights.

Sophomore Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and freshman Julia Vitale (Elm Grove, Wis.) struck first at No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 victory.

No. 3 doubles, saw freshman Antonina Sanna (Clinton Township, Mich.) and sophomore Ashley Saniter (Beaver Dam, Wis.) win 8-5.

Sophomore Mia Andrae (Cedarburg, Wis.) and senior Rebekah Spiegelhoff (Mount Pleasant, Wis.) brought out the brooms to complete the doubles sweep on court two at 8-7.

After a Wartburg victory at No. 2 singles, Ricki Budewitz responded with a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory over Hannah Fox.

The Knights cut into the lead once against with a victory on court four.

Rebekah Spiegelhoff bounced Gabby Olejiniczak at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2 to secure the win.

Mia Andrae captured the final CUW victory of the day at No. 6 singles, with a 3-6, 6-2, 10-5 victory.

The Falcons fought hard in doubles play, with the teams of Ricki Budewitz and sophomore Elizabeth Johnson (Hubertus, Wis.) and Rebekah Spiegelhoff and Mia Andrae falling 8-6 at No. 1 and 2 doubles respectively against North Central.

CUW opens NACC action on Wednesday at home against MSOE. The match was originally scheduled to be played at MSOE.
