Women's Lacrosse battles River Falls through freezing rain in home opener

MEQUON, Wis. – Lauren Paquin shot a hat trick on a night in which the weather was every sort of terrible, but Concordia Wisconsin fell in a battle between Falcons to UW-River Falls on Saturday night by a score of 7-5.

THE BASICS
-Final Score: UW-River Falls 7, Concordia Wisconsin 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
-UW-River Falls struck first when Lexy Meinert scored with 25:37 remaining in the first half.
-CUW answered 18 seconds later to tie the game up at 1-1 as Paquin (Waukesha, Wis.) scored unassisted.
-Later on in the first, River Falls added two more goals to go up 3-1.
-At 11:43, Paquin scored once again to cut the UWRF lead in half, with Ellie Woodman (Janesville, Wis.) assisting.
-River Falls closed out the first half with a three-goal run to go up 6-2 at halftime.
-Needing to generate some offense, Concordia Wisconsin got an early second-half goal by Megan McPike (Mequon, Wis.).
-Five minutes later, Kristen Kennedy (London, Ontario) scored to trim the River Falls lead to 6-4.
-Gina Jablonski gave River Falls extra breathing room with an unassisted goal with 14:51 remaining.
-Concordia Wisconsin got one more goal as Paquin completed her hat trick with 13:37 remaining in regulation. McPike assisted with the score.
-Unfortunately for CUW, they proceeded to receive a fourth yellow card as a team, forcing them to play down a player for the remainder of the game. Though they managed to defend their net with this disadvantage, they were unable to complete a rally.
