Falcons take down Lions in series opener

HANCOCK, Mich. – Natasha Wanless scored twice to lead Concordia Wisconsin over Finlandia 3-1 on Friday afternoon. 

THE BASICS
-Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 3, Finlandia 1
-Records: Concordia Wisconsin 11-8-2 (7-6-2 NCHA), Finlandia (1-21, 1-14 NCHA) 

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Falcons trailed after the first period, as Sarah Hockings scored the lone goal of the period for the Lions. Fortunately for the Falcons, it was also the lone goal of the game for Finlandia.
-Wanless (Madison, Wis.) scored the first of her two goals on a power-play in the second period. Emily Godwin (London, Ontario) and Kristen Kennedy (London, Ontario) assisted on the goal.
-Entering the third period tied at 1-1, the Falcons did not take long to score the go-ahead goal. Wanless scored her second of the night 1:37 into the frame, which was the game-winner for CUW.
-Ally Hull (Wasilla, Alaska) added another goal late in the third to give the Falcons some breathing room.
-Ellie Woodman (Janesville, Wis.) assisted on both third-period goals.
-Christina Pattengale (Portage, Mich.) had 19 saves in net for the Falcons.
-The Falcons outshot the Lions 36-20.
