Late 3-pointer falls short in comeback effort

MEQUON, Wis. -- Concordia Wisconsin needed a few more seconds to have a chance to spoil Edgewood's unblemished start to the season, but couldn't get a timely bucket when needed during a 71-68 decision on Saturday afternoon during NACC play inside the R. John Buuck Field House.

QUOTING HEAD COACH STACEY BRUNNER-JONES
"I want to thank our alumni that attended today's game. We had an alumni game before and 23 players showed up, which is the most ever. Their support and love mean a lot. As far as today's game, I hope we continue to learn from every situation, the good and the bad, and continue to grow as a team. We are working hard and are improving each and every day."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons were leading for the first four minutes of the fourth quarter until the Eagles took no more than a two-possession lead down the stretch. With 23 seconds to play senior Clara Chambers (Mineral Point, Wis.) made a layup to get her team within four points. After a pair of Edgewood free throws, freshman Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.) drained a 3-pointer to put the scoreboard at 71-68 with 13 seconds left.
- Edgewood missed six free throws in the final 10 seconds and Concordia Wisconsin missed a 3-pointer from the left wing, which would have tied the game. After the fourth missed free throw, the Eagles grabbed the offensive rebound with under four seconds to play and were fouled again.
- The game was tight all the way with five scoring ties and eight lead changes. The Falcons drained six 3-pointers, but were outrebounded 40-29.
- Chambers had an outstanding game with 22 points (three 3-pointers), to go along with five rebounds and three steals. Junior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) tallied 17 points and sophomore Camryn Szolyga (Waukesha, Wis.) added 10 points.
- Edgewood was led by Emma Klein and Alyssa Lemirande who each had 16 points. Bria Lemirande added 15 points.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- Concordia Wisconsin hosts Alverno on Tuesday to complete a three-game homestand at 7 pm inside the R. John Buuck Field House.
