Stars sink Falcons’ NACC opener

River Forest, Ill.—On Saturday, the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons opened NACC conference play against the Dominican University Stars. The Falcons overcame another slow start, but their rally fell short.

The Basics:

Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 60, Dominican University 72

Records: Concordia Wisconsin (0-3, 0-1), Dominican (3-0, 1-0)

How it Happened:

-The Falcons were outscored in the 1st quarter 20-8 but found their rhythm in the second quarter storming back to a get within four points at the half.

-The Falcons and Stars went shot for shot in the 3rd quarter but the Falcons climbed back and wiped the four-point Stars' advantage and went up three heading into the final quarter.  

-The Stars, however, were not going to let this one get away from them. The Stars outscored the Falcons 15-2 through the first seven minutes of the final frame and held a 22-12 advantage in the 4th to secure the victory.  

-Despite the slow start, the Falcons made six three pointers and shot over 76 percent from the charity stripe. They Falcons cleaned the glass, grabbing 45 rebounds, 13 of them offensive, compared to the Stars 34, 7 of them offensive.

-The Falcons were led by Junior guard, Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.). She led the Falcons with 23 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Sophomore forward, Camryn Szolyga (Waukesha, Wis.), added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

-The Stars were led by Timiya Ray. She filled the stat sheet with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Alisha Markely added 15 points of her own.

-The Falcons will have a week off before traveling to Wisconsin Lutheran for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
