Falcons break ground on 2020 season at Grand Valley

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Falcons opened 2020 at the Bill Clinger Classic at Grand Valley State on Friday night. In a field filled with teams from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and Canada, the Falcons earned 0 points against the stacked competition on Friday afternoon. Northwood of Michigan won with 72 points.

Senior Samual Spranger (Fond du Lac, Wis.) crossed the finish line at 51.26 in the 400-meter dash in 11th place. He was also 39th in the 200-meter dash at 23.73.

The triple jump saw freshman Isaac Zahrt (Kronenwetter, Wis.) and freshman Samuel Heling (De Pere, Wis.) tie for 13th place at 11.21 meters.

Junior Brandon Hargis (Henderson, Nev.) finished in 17th place in the shot put at 13.12 meters. He was also 24th in the weight throw at 12.74 meters.

In the 60-meter dash qualifying, junior Paul Leahy (Eldridge, Iowa) clocked in at 7.21, the third-fastest qualifying time. He placed 20th on the day at 7.23.

At long jump, sophomore Austin Lopez (Ripon, Wis.) earned a 25-place mark of 5.58 meters.

Senior Henry Jensen (Muskego, Wis.) finished 33rd in the 60-meter hurdles at 10.01.

Sophomore William Ebel (Macomb, Mich.) led CUW in the 1-mile run in 67th place at 4:47.20.

The team of Henry Jensen, sophomore Christian Prohl (Downers Grove, Ill.), junior Emmett Williams (Hartford, Wis.) and Samual Spranger secured a 14th-place finish at the 4x400 meter relay at 3:31.74.

The Falcons will return to action on Jan. 25 at Whitewater.
