Falcons drop road matchup with Eagles

Lisle, Ill. – Concordia Wisconsin traveled across the border to take on the Benedictine Eagles on a cool Saturday evening at the Sports Complex. The Falcons were edged out by the score of 3-1. 

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CUW applied pressure early in the contest by getting their first four shots on goal, compared to the Benedictine's one shot within the first 20 minutes. Unfortunately for the Falcons, goalie Shawn Chervets was able to come away with two saves. The visitors also just missed a potential goal, as junior Antonio Gurrola-Flores (Sheboygan, Wis.) hit the crossbar in the early going that kept the Falcons from taking the early momentum.
- Shortly after the exciting opening 20 minutes, the Eagles struck on a threw ball that found the foot of Hayden Van Son. The pass was finished off by placing it just out of the goalies reach in the lower left corner. Benedictine found the net once more seven minutes later to push their lead to 2-0. The Eagles capitalized off of a scramble in the box that left nobody between Larry Meehan and the back of the net which gave the Eagles an insurance goal right before half.
- However, Concordia Wisconsin would not go away, in the late stages of the second half senior Dagoberto Diaz (Woodburn, Ore.) scored a sensational goal, as the keeper came out to challenge Diaz who then crossed the ball out of reach and into the back of the net to cut the deficit to one for the Falcons.
- With the game clock ticking down, both teams were trying to make a play. Benedictine came away with that play to halt the Concordia Wisconsin comeback and push the lead back up to two goals. Marco Corona-Duran booted a high arcing shot from 40 yards away that fell just behind keeper and put the game away and brought the score to 3-1 in favor of the Eagles.      

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The series history between the two teams continues to be close. Concordia Wisconsin still leads the series 9-5 with the last ten games resulting in a 5-4-1 record for the Falcons.
