Men’s Lacrosse holds off Cornell in MLC contest

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Concordia Wisconsin held off a late Cornell rally to earn a 9-8 victory in the regular season finale during MLC play at Ash Park Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a close game throughout with four scoring ties and five lead changes before Concordia Wisconsin built a three-goal lead and held off a late rally by Cornell that included two goals in the final 2:26.
- With the scoreboard reading 6-6 after three quarters of play, the Falcons rattled off three-consecutive scores over a nearly six-minute span to build what was a comfortable three-goal lead. The Rams found the back of the net with 2:26 to play in the game and then scored the final tally with a second to play.
- Concordia Wisconsin controlled the faceoff circle, winning 13-of-19 attempts with sophomore Ben Gramarossa recording 11 faceoff wins of his own.
- The offense was highlighted by junior Stephen Gregory (Louisville, Ky.), who netted four markers and had two in the third quarter. Junior Jack Donnellan (Grayslake, Ill.) and freshman Keijo Day (Esko, Minn.) each found the back of the net twice. Sophomore Warner Marquez (Danville, Calif.) scored and assisted on a goal.
- Junior Garrett Wohlford (Rochester, Minn.) made 15 saves in goal to earn the victory and had five saves in each of the first and third quarters.
- Junior Mario Baregi (Champlin, Minn.) picked up a career-high eight ground balls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons were outshot (36-41) for the first time over the past six games.
- The win is the sixth in a row for Concordia Wisconsin, continuing it's the longest winning streak of the season.

THE OPPOSITION
- A.J. Fisher and Brodie Vieweg each scored twice for the Rams, while Conor Hollowell had two assists.
- Evan Kedjidjian made eight saves in goal and Carlos Siguenza picked up five ground balls.
