Offense explodes on Senior Day

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW field hockey team secured a first-round bye in the SAA Tournament with a 6-1 victory over Transylvania. The victory pushes CUW to 6-10 and 1-3 in the SAA.

"We knew what was on the line today," said head coach Samantha Schoessow. "We worked on capitalizing on our shots and corners at practice yesterday. I am proud to see the team step up and apply what we worked on. I am also thrilled that our seniors could end their final home game with such a definitive win. We're looking forward to playing Rhodes again in the semifinals on Saturday."

The Falcons honored the first four-year class on senior day in Sophia O'Connor (Manchester, Mich.), Brianna Buehler (Hartland, Wis.), Rachel Larson (St. Louis, Mo.), Sam Dunn (Hartland, Wis.), Kelsey Fulton (Hartland, Wis.) and Abigail Martin (Saline, Mich.).

The CUW offense came to life on Sunday, starting in the first quarter.

Sophomore Megan McPike (Mequon, Wis.) was able to pull the defense and open the scoring on an empty net. Senior Sam Dunn celebrated senior day with an assist.

The Pioneers leveled the game with a shot from three yards out.

The Falcons went into halftime tied at one.

Freshman Lorri Pitock (Naperville, Ill.) stole the ball in the third quarter and tossed it to Megan McPike who put the Falcons ahead.

As time expired in the third quarter, Megan McPike tipped in a corner off a shot from Lorri Pitock.

Freshman Donna Pitock (Naperville, Ill.) scored the fourth Falcon goal when she tipped in the ball in front of the net in a scrum.

Pitock struck again five minutes later with a shot from two yards out.

Megan McPike as she snuck past the last defender and sent the shot past the keeper.

Freshman Emily Binley (Suffolk, Va.) earned her third victory of the year.

The four goals is a program record.

The six goals ties the season high.

The victory and the goals margin in the SAA propelled the Falcons to the No. 3 seed in the SAA Tournament and sets a date with Rhodes.
