Football earns wild Senior Day victory

MEQUON, Wis. -- It was one of the wildest and most unique games to have watched in quite some time, but in the end Concordia Wisconsin pulled out a 41-27 victory over Rockford on Saturday afternoon at Tomasini Stadium.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 41, Rockford 27
Location: Tomasini Stadium (Mequon, Wis.)
Records: Concordia Wisconsin 4-4, 2-3 NACC; Rockford 1-7, 0-5 NACC

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half was littered with yellow flags on the field, with them coming from every angle during and even after the play as neither team played a clean style of football. There were 15 combined penalties for 176 yards in the first 30 minutes of action.
- There were many highlights from the contest, including an Isaiah Tenette (senior, Sacramento, Calif.) 84-yard kickoff return for the Falcons opening score of the contest. Later in the first quarter, sophomore James Linn (Chino Hills, Calif.) connected with sophomore Tim Houlihan (Lockport, Ill.) for a 13-yard pass-and-catch touchdown to put the Falcons in front 14-7.
- After Linn settled down, throwing two interceptions, he found sophomore Tanner Hill (Phoenix, Ariz.) in the corner of the end zone for a 5-yard strike to push Concordia Wisconsin back in front 20-14. Linn later tossed a 24-yard touchdown pass to junior D'Anthony Lee (Milwaukee, Wis.) on a nice piece of route running to go back in front 27-21.
- Following what was probably a motivational halftime speech, both teams settled down and it was Concordia Wisconsin that played the better tale of two halves. They scored once in the third on a Linn to Hill 2-yard score to again go back in front, 34-27, before junior Matt Montgomery (Hillsboro, Texas) found pay dirt on a 4-yard rush up the middle.
- Linn ended up with 312 yards in the air and four touchdowns, but also had four interceptions. He connected with Hill seven times for 87 yards and in total eight different receivers. Montgomery ended up with 173 yards on the ground on 31 carries (5.6 average).
- Defensively, sophomore Josiah McDermit (Kansasville, Wis.) had another noteworthy performance with two interceptions, while sophomore Gabe Christenson (Kewaskum, Wis.) had a game-sealing pick of his own.
- Rockford was led by Christian Mazur passed for 205 yards and three scores, while Joey Owens hauled in 10 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown.

GAME NOTES
- The Falcons accumulated a season-high 529 total offensive yards (312 passing, 217 rushing) on 89 plays for an average of 5.9 yards. They also ended up 4-of-5 on red zone opportunities.
