Homecoming spoiled by Spartans

MEQUON, Wis. -- Concordia Wisconsin played tough against one of the top-ranked offensive team in the country, but Aurora came out ahead 24-7 at Tomasini Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Aurora 24, Concordia Wisconsin 7
Location: Tomasini Stadium (Mequon, Wis.)
Records: Aurora 5-1, 3-0 NACC; Concordia Wisconsin 2-4, 0-3 NACC

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Concordia Wisconsin tied the game with an 8-yard James Linn pass-and-catch to Christian Booker with under a minute to play before halftime. What led to a low scoring first half was the strong defense by the hosts, who intercepted a pass on three-consecutive Aurora drives.
- It began with a Marquis Thorn (junior, Atlanta, Ga.) interception at midfield with 14 minutes to play in the second quarter. Then sophomore Josiah McDermit (Kansaville, Wis.) hauled in an interception off a deep pass on the next Spartans possession and he followed it up by taking away what could have been a touchdown by intercepting a pass at the 1-yard line.
- Aurora would go on to score a passing and rushing touchdown in the second half, along with a field goal to stay undefeated in NACC play.
- Linn (sophomore, Chino Hills, Calif.) threw for 254 yards and a score, while rushing for 40 more. Sophomore Tanner Hill (Phoenix, Ariz.) hauled in nine passes for 92 yards.
- Freshman Jaylen Campbell (Milwaukee, Wis.) had a career game with 15 tackles, including 12 of the solo variety. Juniors Dwayne Rackard III (Orlando, Fla.) and Connor Stoming (Germantown, Wis.) each had 12 tackles.
- Aurora was led by Gavin Zimbelman who threw two touchdowns and Tyran Bailey ran for 168 yards and a score. Colton Jewell had seven catches for 117 yards and a touchdown. The Spartans defense recorded 11 tackles for loss.
