Falcons post a season-best score in West Virginia

ELKINS, W. Va. – The CUW acrobatics and tumbling team posted its best score of the season on Saturday evening at David & Elkins with 227.790 points. The Senators edged out the Falcons, 238.800 – 227.790 to move the Falcons to 1-2 on the season. The Blue and White broke one school record on Saturday and had a season-best score in 19 of the 20 heats.

"The team really dialed in and put a lot of focus unto practicing with intention these past few weeks," said head coach Sarah Koenig. "We are very proud of the improvement they have made this meet and are excited about the remainder of the season. We still have a lot of upgrades we are looking forward to competing."

The Falcons opened the evening with a season-high score of 31.55 points in the compulsory event. The Blue and White had season-best scores in all four heats and highlighted the event with a score of 9.55 points in the toss event.

CUW claimed the lead with a season-high score of 25.90 in the acro event. The birds posted a program-best score in the third heat. In heat three, the team of sophomore Madalynn Visser (Belvidere, Ill.), junior Katelyn Mirasola (Sussex, Wis.), sophomore Samantha Hoolerbek (Belvidere, Ill.) and sophomore Alyssa Schnulle (Janesville, Wis.) notched a score of 9.55 points. The previous record had been 9.45, set in 2016.

The Senators claimed a 0.10 point lead at halftime after CUW scored a season-high 27.55 points in the pyramid event. The Falcons landed season-best scores in all three pyramid heats with a score of 9.15 in the inversion pyramid and a score of 8.80 points in the synchronized pyramid. The team of sophomore Abby Bodoh (West Bend, Wis.), sophomore Kara Skevis (Lockport, Ill.), Samantha Hoolerbek and  junior Madison Schultz (Janesville, Wis.) secured a score of 9.60 points in the open pyramid.

CUW shattered its season-high score in the toss event with 25.35 points on Saturday night with season-best scores in all three heats. Heat one saw freshman Kylie Nelson (Capron, Ill.), Madison Schultz , Abby Bodoh, Samantha Hoolerbek sophomore and Nicki Jack (Orange, Calif.) secure a score of 8.75 points. The synchronized heat saw 8.05 points and the open heat grabbed 8.55 points.

Concordia Wisconsin continued its season-best streak in the tumbling event with 45.25 points. The Falcons scored season-best scores in all six heats on Saturday. In the aerial heat, Kara Skevis scored 8.15 points, while freshman Jessi Alexander (Plainfield, Ill.) brought in 8.60 points in the six-element heat and Madison Schultz closed the book with 8.10 points in the open heat.

The Falcons closed the day with a season-best score of 72.19 points in the team event.

CUW will return to action on March 12 at home against East Texas Baptist.
