Falcons fall in season opener to Adrian

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW acrobatics and tumbling team opened the 2019 season on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons led a majority of the afternoon, but Adrian came away with a 224.970 – 219.570 victory.

"Tonight was a great opportunity for our team t finally get into competition mode," said head coach Sarah Koenig. "We really are overwhelmed with the amount of support from the community and appreciate all of the enthusiasm and energy our home crowd brings. While it was not the outcome we had hoped for, we could not be more proud of this young team and look forward to what improvements they make next."

The Falcons led after the compulsory event to start the day at 28.8-26.35. The Falcons posted a score of 9.50 in the toss heat.

The Blue and White posted a score of 23.75 in the acro event.

CUW extended the lead heading into halftime with a score of 27.95 in the pyramid event.

The team of senior Alyssa Ellis (Rhinelander, Wis.), senior Anna Smith (Marengo, Ill.), sophomore Katelyn Mirasola (Sussex, Wis.), senior Jofflyn Zaremba (Winneconne, Wis.), senior Jordan Ireland (Bennett, Colo.) and sophomore Lindsey Leonhard (Sheboygan, Wis.) notched a score of 9.55 in the inversion.

In the open pyramid, freshman Abby Pierce (Antioch, Ill.), Jordan Ireland, Jofflyn Zaremba, Anna Smith and Lindsey Leonhard recorded a score of 9.45.

The Bulldogs bit into the CUW lead in the toss event, where the Falcons finished with a score of 23.70.

In the tumbling event, CUW extended the lead with a score of 42.750. Jordan Ireland highlighted the event with a score of 8.275 in the open pass.

The Falcons closed the day with a score of 72.62 in the team event.

The Blue and White face No. 6 Fairmont State on Friday.
