Women’s Track & Field soars in 2020

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's track & field team grew in the 2020 indoor track & field season.

The Falcons highest finish of the year came at the NACC Indoor Track & Field Championships in February with 90 points, improving from 2019.

CUW athletes competed in eight meets on the season.

Junior Megan Curran (Spring Grove, Ill.) broke the school record in the shot put at 12.88 meters at the NACC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Junior Alden Goucher (Port Charlotte, Fla.) claimed a NACC title in the triple jump with a mark of 11.29 meters.

In total, eight Falcons medaled at the NACC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Megan Curran claimed second-place finishes in the shot put and in the weight throw at 16.00 meters. Senior Nicole Veldhorst (Cedar Grove, Wis.) won the silver medal in the high jump at 1.56 meters and junior LaNea Bartel (Kewaunee, Wis.) secured the silver medal in the 1-mile run at 5:25.10. The Falcons finished in third place in the distance medley relay. The team of sophomore Mackenzie Larsen (Appleton, Wis.), freshman Lindsay Pluister (Woodridge, Ill.), freshman Madison Chiappetta (Lenexa, Kan.) and freshman Micah Hill (Camdenton, Wis.) finished at 13:59.68.

The Blue and White secured NACC Student-Athlete of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks on February 10 and February 18 in Megan Curran and Mackenzie Larsen.

The Falcons secured seven victories on the year. CUW won four events at UW-Whitewater, with Megan Curran winning the shot put and weight throw crowns, Mackenzie Larsen winning the 3000-meter run and Alden Goucher claiming the 400-meter dash title. Larsen also won the 3000-meter title at 11:34.65 at UW-Platteville. At UW-Platteville, the Falcons finished first in the distance medley relay. The team of Mackenzie Larsen, Alden Goucher, Madison Chiappetta and LaNea Bartel won at 14:36.17.

CUW finished the indoor season with three top-50 marks in NCAA Division III. Megan Curran had the 47th-best weight throw at 16.00 meters and the 50th-best shot put at 12.88 meters. Alden Goucher also had the 47th-best triple jump at 11.29 meters.

Concordia Wisconsin will graduate two seniors in Kathryn Schultz (Fredonia, Wis.) and Nicole Veldhorst.

The Falcons will return to action for the 2020-21 indoor season.
