Women’s Track & Field posts strong day at Ripon

RIPON, Wis. – The CUW women's track & field team finished fifth in a field of 11 teams on Saturday at the Ripon Red Hawk Invitational. The Falcons recorded 34.5 point, while St. Norbert won with 181 points.

"Today was a great day for our team," said head coach Russ DeLap. "There were so many excellent performances by so many. Being at where we are in our season we are certainly moving in the right direction. We have three weeks until conference to continue this trend."

Sophomore Megan Curran (Spring Grove, Ill.) won the weight throw competition with a school-record toss of 16.12 meters and notched a third-place finish in the shot put at 11.92 meters.

Senior Irene Bolis (Marengo, Ill.) advanced to the finals of the 60-meter dash and finished eighth at 8.43. She also finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.73.

Senior Morgan Marnholtz (Merrill, Wis.) finished in seventh place in the 400-meter dash at 1:04.44. She also placed sixth in the triple jump at 10.28 meters.

Junior Nicole Veldhorst (Cedar Grove, Wis.) placed fourth in the high jump at 1.50 meters. Freshman Jordyn Schmidt (Manitowoc, Wis.) was in sixth place at 1.45 meters.

The 200-meter dash saw sophomore Megan Sprinkman (Kohler, Wis.) place 14th at 28.50.

In the long jump, junior Kathryn Schultz (Fredonia, Wis.) led CUW in 17th place at 4.36 meters.

Sophomore LaNea Bartel (Kewaunee, Wis.) battled in the 800-mter run and finished in 26th place at 2:47.65. Bartel also led CUW in the mile race at 6:04.51 in 18th place.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday at UW-Platteville.
