Women’s Tennis Carves Up Carroll

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's tennis team opened the season with a commanding 8-1 victory over Carroll on Wednesday afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 0-1 to open the young year at 0-1.

The team of senior Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and sophomore Ashley Samuta (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) drew first blood with an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles.

The duo of senior Mia Andrae (Cedarburg, Wis.) and freshman Cheyanne Phillips (Morris, Ill.) pushed over the Pioneers at No. 2 doubles, 8-4.

Sophomore Mallory Moen (Neenah, Wis.) and senior Elizabeth Johnson (Hubertus, Wis.) closed the book on doubles play with an 8-6 victory.

Elizabeth Johnson punched Rachel Papp at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-2.

At No. 2 singles, Ashley Samuta sank Ashley LaBelle at No. 2 single, 6-2, 7-5.

Mia Andrae overwhelmed Madison Ostrander at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 7-5.

Mallory Moen moved past Maya Gadtke at No. 4 singles, 3-6, 6-1, 10-5.

Ricki Budewitz put the final nail in the coffin with a 7-6, 7-5 victory over Grace Krueger at No. 1 singles.

The Falcons open NACC play with Wisconsin Lutheran and Alverno on Saturday.
