Women’s Tennis secures NACC Tournament spot in Saturday sweep

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's tennis team made quick work of Wisconsin Lutheran and Alverno on Saturday with a pair of 9-0 victories. The victories secure a spot in the NACC Tournament Semifinals with a 7-0 record in the NACC. The Falcons move to 9-1 on the year with the victories.

The Falcons opened the day against the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran

Sophomore Ricki Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) and freshman Julia Vitale (Elm Grove, Wis.) bounced WLC at No. 1 doubles, 8-1.

At No. 3 doubles, freshman Antonina Sanna (Clinton Township, Mich.) and sophomore Ashley Saniter (Beaver Dam, Wis.) proved to be too much and won, 8-2.

Sophomore Mia Andrae (Cedarburg, Wis.) and senior Rebekah Spiegelhoff (Mount Pleasant, Wis.) secured an 8-3 victory to close singles play.

Rebekah Spiegelhoff kept Anna Krause off the scoreboard at No. 6 singles at 6-0, 6-0.

Antonina Sanna swept Reebee Ratkowski away at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Ricki Budewitz downed Amanda Wietrzny at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2.

Julia Vitale defeated Madeline Steber at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2.

At. No. 4 singles, sophomore Elizabeth Johnson (Hubertus, Wis.) sank Sandhya Akella, 6-0, 6-4.

Sophomore Jennifer Mies (Brookfield, Wis.) closed the door on WLC with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Hanna Gerbing at No. 2 singles.

The Falcons closed the day extinguishing the Inferno of Alverno.

All three doubles teams pitched perfect 8-0 victories against Alverno on Saturday with Ricki Budewitz and Julia Vitale at No. 1 doubles, Jennifer Mies and Elizabeth Johnson at No. 2 doubles and with freshman Alaina Hazelberg (Mayville, Wis.) and freshman Heidea Vaudt (Rockford, Ill.) at No. 3 doubles.

Rebekah Spiegelhoff kept her opponent off the scoreboard for the second time on Saturday. This time it came at No. 2 singles against Kalie Hannah.

Mia Andrae made quick work of Merub Irfan at No. 3 singles at 6-0, 6-0.

Heidea Vaudt canned Anna Nikolich at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Ashley Saniter tossed Sierra Hunstable at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Alaina Hazelberg picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Monse Sanchez-Gutierrez at No. 5 singles.

At No. 1 singles, Antonina Sanna secured a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Michelle Alexander.

The Falcons close the home portion of the Fall schedule on Wednesday against Lakeland.
