Women’s Soccer Defends Home Field Against Marian

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's soccer team clinched a spot in the NACC Tournament with a 2-1 victory over Marian on Wednesday afternoon. The victory propels CUW to 10-2-0 on the year and keeps the Blue and White on top of the NACC at 9-0-0 with 27 points.

Junior Isabel Downs (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) lit up the scoreboard in the fifth minute when she tapped in the deflection off a shot from junior Karoline Haugland (Bergen, Norway).

Senior Allison McElwee (Laramie, Wyo.) added to the lead in the 36th minute off an assist to junior Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.).

The Sabres spoiled the shutout with a goal with 13 seconds left in the match.

The Falcons outshot the Sabres on Wednesday, 33-8. Karoline Haugland led the match with 14 shots, with seven on target.

Senior Kaeley Sterkel (Dana Point, Calif.) secured five saves in the victory.

The Falcons can get some separation on top of the NACC standings when they travel to Dominican on Saturday.
