Women’s Soccer rolls at Alverno

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The winning streak extended to six matches to start the season for the Concordia Wisconsin women's soccer program. The Blue and White kept their spot atop the NACC standings with an 11-1 victory at Alverno.

"It was great to have the entire squad play and to have goals come from so many different players," said head coach Ryan Middendorf. "I was impressed with the team's approach to the game today. I am really excited to be 2-0 in NACC play."

It only took junior Allison McElwee (Laramie, Wyo.) 66 seconds to put the Falcons on the scoreboard.

Freshman Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.) then headed in a ball off a pass from sophomore Isabel Downs (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) in the fifth minute.

Two minutes later, sophomore Kylie Haarmann (Statesville, N.C.) scored her first goal of the season off a pass from freshman Karoline Haugland (Bergen, Norway).

Karoline Haugland beat the Alverno keeper to the ball in the 15^th minute after collecting a pass from freshman Katelyn Ries (Upland, Calif.).

Freshman Afton Wenger (Green Bay, Wis.) collected her first goal as a Falcon in the 23^rd minute from a pass off the feet of freshman Julie Holt (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and Katelyn Ries.

The Blue and White held a 5-0 lead going into halftime.

Katelyn Ries wasted no time and scored in the first 23 seconds of the second half.

Isabel Downs took advantage of an empty net as Karoline Haugland pulled in the defense for the eighth CUW goal.

Karoline Haugland secured her third hat trick of the season with goals in the 55^th and 59^th minute.

Selena Esten broke past a pair of Alverno defenders to find the back of the net.

A pass from freshman Juliana VanBoxtel (Little Chute, Wis.) was able to split the sea of red defenders and find freshman Bria Wachowiak (Owatonna, Minn.), who put the ball away for her first collegiate goal.

The Alverno found their way on the scoreboard on a penalty kick.

Freshman Naomi Gruben (Sheboygan, Wis.) made her first appearance in the net and recorded her first save on Wednesday.

Junior Kaeley Sterkel (Dan Point, Calif.) picked up her sixth victory of the year.

The Falcons blasted the Alverno net with 56 shots on Wednesday. The 56 shots is tied for second-most in the NCAA era for the CUW program.   

The 32 points in the game are tied for fourth most for CUW in the NCAA era.

CUW improves to 18-0-0 against Alverno.

Over the last two games, the Falcons offense has recorded 18 goals. That is the most in a two-game period since 2009, when the Falcons scored a combined 23 goals against Wisconsin Lutheran and Rockford.

The Falcons resume NACC play on Saturday at Concordia Chicago.
