FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Falcons opened the 2019 season with a bang on Sunday. CUW pitched a 2-0 shutout victory on the road.

"Today was a great start to the season," said head coach Ryan Middendorf. "I am so impressed with our collective work rate everywhere on the field. I think we have just begun to see the tremendous potential this group has."

The Blue and White avenged a 5-4 loss in 2018 to Franklin.

Freshman Karoline Haugland (Bergen, Norway) opened the scoring in the 16th minute off a pass from junior Allison McElwee (Laramie, Wyo.).

Haugland struck again four minutes later off her heel off a cross from Allison McElwee.

Junior Kaeley Sterkel (Dana Point, Calif.) earned the shutout with one save.

The Falcons outshot the Grizzles 12-5 on Sunday.

The Falcons will travel to Wisconsin-La Crosse on Tuesday.
