Women’s Soccer wallops Alverno, 12-0

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons lit up the scoreboard and filled the stat sheet on Wednesday afternoon at Fitting Field against Alverno. The CUW women's soccer team extinguished the Inferno with a 12-0 victory.

"I was pleased to have the result f the game and a chance to provide well-deserved playing time to many players," said head coach Ryan Middendorf. "Every player on our roster has contributed to our season's success leading into the conference tournament. I think we're in a really good place right now as a team and are excited to get into the tournament."

The Falcons secured a .500 record at a minimum with a record of 10-9-0 in the regular reason and a third-place finish in the NACC at 8-3. Alverno falls to 4-14 and 0-11 in NACC play. The Falcons have reached the 10-win plateau for the 20th time in program history.

The 12 Falcon goals is tied for the fifth most in program history and the most this season. The last time that CUW was able to accomplish that was on Sept. 11, 2012, at Maranatha. The program record was set in 2006 with 16 goals.

Sophomore Alexandra Tomich (Mission Viejo, Calif.) started the scoring in the 10th minute of the match and finished the match with two goals.

Five minutes later, senior Nicole Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) connected off a pass from junior Shannon Carroll (Mundelein, Ill.) to make it a 2-0 match.

Freshman Crosbie Kowalski (Milwaukee, Wis.) recorded the second-highest point total in a single match, with four goals and two assists. She started her scoring on a penalty kick to give the Falcons a 4-0 lead.

Goals from Shannon Carroll and freshman Kylie Haarmann (Statesville, N.C.) pushed the lead up to 6-0 and a pair of Kowalski goals gave CUW an 8-0 lead at halftime.

Nicole Ciesielczyk, freshman Isabel Downs (Menomonee Falls, Wis.), Shannon Carroll and Crosbie Kowalski all scored second-half goals.

Alverno finished the match with two shots, with neither making it on net. The trio of sophomore Olivia Kindt (Dyer, Ind.), sophomore Kaeley Sterkel (Dana Point, Calif.) and senior Laura Snyder (Green Bay, Wis.) earned the combined shutout, with Kindt earning the victory.

23 Falcons flew into the match on Wednesday, with nine players recording a shot.

Concordia Wisconsin outshot Alverno on Wednesday, 38-2. Allison Weick notched 10 saves on the afternoon. The 38 shots are a season high for the Falcons.

Wednesday was also the first time all season that the Falcons have not allowed at least one shot on goal.

Later tonight, the Falcons will find out who they will host in the quarterfinal round of the NACC Tournament on Saturday.
