Sterkel stops UW-Oshkosh as Women's Soccer wins third straight

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer team played three road matches this week to conclude a five-match road swing. All the Falcons did over those three matches was post a perfect 3-0-0 record, allowing just one goal as the road swing concluded with a 2-0 win at UW-Oshkosh Sunday.  Kaeley Sterkel made 10 saves in Sunday's win, resulting in her first career collegiate shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sterkel was the story of the match with her career-best 10 save effort. The sophomore stopped three shots in the first half and recorded seven more saves in the final 45 minutes, keeping the Titans off the board.

- The Falcons scored once in each half Sunday as Alexandra Tomich (Mission Viejo, Calif.) put CUW up 1-0 in the 25th minute. The goal was the third of the week for Tomich, who had two in a win at Marian Wednesday. Shannon Carroll (Mundelein, Ill.) assisted on the Tomich goal.

- In the second half, Ashley Johnson (Chesterfield, Mich.) made the score 2-0 in the 60th minute with her third goal of the season. Julia Smessaert (West Allis, Wis.) picked up her first career collegiate point with an assist on the Johnson goal.  

- The Falcons were outshot 20-9 on Sunday but made their opportunities count. Six of the Falcons nine shots came on goal as Madelyn Runyan stopped six shots for the Titans.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- CUW gave up just one goal in three matches this week, finishing with two-consecutive shutouts. The Falcons shut out Benedictine Saturday night before Sunday's performance against the Titans.

- The shutout win was also the second-straight for the Falcons in the series history against UW-Oshkosh. Last season, CUW defeated the Titans 1-0 in a home match on October 22.

- CUW will return home for the first time since September 10 with a NACC match against Edgewood Wednesday at 4 p.m.
