Six from Women's Soccer earn All-NACC recognition
MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer team had six players recognized as the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference released its 2017 Awards Thursday. Kayla Schlosser was the Falcons lone First Team selection, along with four Second Team nods and one on Honorable Mention.
Schlosser (Germantown, Wis.) was selected to the First Team for the second time in her career, also receiving the nod in 2015. This season, Schlosser has posted 27 points, scoring 12 goals and adding three assists. She scored 10 of those goals during the NACC regular season and added a score in a 2-1 NACC Tournament win over Marian.
The Falcons had four players earn Second Team All-NACC honors: Tabitha Ortiz, Josie Dombrowski, Shannon Carroll, and Ashley Johnson. In addition, freshman Allison McElwee was named as an Honorable Mention pick.
Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.) was once again one of the top goaltenders in the conference and gained her second All-NACC selection (First Team in 2015). Ortiz was also an All-Freshmen pick in 2014 and made 104 saves this season. She had seven games with eight or more saves and posted a .813 save percentage. Ortiz ranked in the top five in the NACC in saves, save percentage, goals against, and goals against average.
Dombrowski (Bartlett, Ill.) returned to the pitch after missing last season due to injury and landed Second Team honors. The sophomore was a First Team pick in 2015 and helped lead a CUW defense which posted seven shutouts this year. CUW gave up just eight goals in 10 league matches, which ranked third best in the conference.
Carroll (Waukesha, Wis.) produced six points for the Falcons this season as one of the top midfielders in the NACC. She scored one goal and added two assists in 10 league matches and also scored a game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over UW-Oshkosh.
Johnson (Chesterfield, Mich.) was another strong midfielder for the Falcons in 2017. The junior, who was an All-Freshmen Team pick in 2015, scored three goals in league matches this year and added an assist in a 2-2 draw against No. 8 UW-Whitewater.
McElwee (Laramie, Wyo.) was one of the Falcons top offensive threats in her first season with the team. The rookie forward scored six goals, all six coming in conference play. She added one assist.
Josseline Williams of Dominican was named the league's Offensive Player of the Year, while her teammate Lexi Kiotis was honored as the Defensive Player of the Year. MSOE won the two other major awards, Freshman of the Year Brooke Zidek, and Coach of the Year, Rolf Zersen.
