Concordia Ann Arbor stuns Women's Soccer in final minute

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer team fell victim to a final-minute goal by Concordia Ann Arbor as the Falcons dropped the 2017 season opener, 1-0, Friday morning. The match was played at Concordia Chicago as a part of the season-opening Concordia Invitational Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game-winning score came off the foot of Heather Emke with 40 seconds remaining in regulation. Emke took advantage of a rebound opportunity inside the box and her unassisted score sent the Falcons to a 0-1 record.

- The story of the match was the outstanding goaltending play as Falcons keeper Tabitha Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.) made nine saves, while her counterpart, Maria Lulgjurag stopped all five shots she faced. Ortiz had five saves in the first half and four more in the final 45 minutes of play.

- The Cardinals outshot the Falcons, 24-9, including a 10-5 shots on goal advantage. Nicole Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) finished the contest with a team-best three shots on goal for CUW, while Kayla Schlosser (Germantown, Wis.) and Allison McElwee (Laramie, Wyo.) each tallied one shot on net.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons fall to 3-12-0 in season-openers dating back to the 2003 season.

- One-goal contests were a common theme for the 2016 Falcons. The Falcons dropped nine matches by a goal, including five by a 1-0 score.
