Wrestling travels to Al Hanke Invitational on Saturday
MEQUON, Wis.
- Following nearly five weeks off from competition the
Concordia University Wisconsin wrestling program returns to the mat
on Saturday at the Al Hanke Invitational, hosted by Elmhurst
College. The Invitational will be the fourth tournament this season
for the Falcons.
CUW has been led this season by standout freshman Greg
Sanders (San Antonio, Texas) at the 141-pound weight class. Sanders
boasts a 20-2 record and is ranked 12th nationally at 141-lbs.
by D3Wrestle.com. He has tallied five victories by fall and 65
takedowns.
The Falcons also feature four grapplers with
double-digits wins: freshman Sean Ambocio (San Antonio, Texas) who
is 15-9, freshman Jesse Huggins (Clintonville, Wis.) who is 14-4,
junior Marcus Lubner (Fredonia, Wis.) who is 12-5 and freshman
Casey Kenealy (Hartford, Wis.) who is 10-9.
Head coach Bret Corner knows that the first half of
the season was important, but the recent week of practice and
remaining portion of the schedule is essential to the team's
success.
"Our lower weights have been strong to open the season
and our upper weights have been improving since day one," Corner
said. "This is one of our hardest working teams we have had in
years and we are looking forward to the second half."
CUW's schedule won't be easy as it wrestled at home
for the first three weeks of the season and have, and will be, on
the road for the remaining duals and tournaments.
