Women's Lacrosse postseason hopes broken

MEQUON, Wis. -- In a win and you're in the postseason situation facing Concordia Wisconsin and Augsburg on Saturday morning, and it looked as if the Falcons were in the driver's seat early with a 6-0 advantage. However, the Auggies clawed their way back and used a 7-1 scoring run over the final 16 minutes to break the hearts of the hosts at Fitting Field at clinch a spot in the MWLC Tournament.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Augsburg 13, Concordia Wisconsin 11

Records: Augsburg 10-6, 10-3 MWLC; Concordia Wisconsin 9-7, 9-3 MWLC 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Concordia Wisconsin and Augsburg were facing a stressful situation and the winner would receive a spot in the MWLC Tournament or at least the tiebreaking scenario if it came to that. Both teams had been to the postseason at least four-consecutive years and the experience was on the field for both sides.
- The Falcons scored early and often, building what appeared to be a comfortable 6-0 lead 18 minutes and 35 seconds into the game. Senior Kristen Kennedy (London, Ontario) and freshman Megan McPike (Mequon, Wis.) each found the back of the net twice during the scoring barrage to the begin the game.
- The Auggies netted three goals in a row before halftime and one less than two minutes into the second half to get back int the game and down by two, 6-4.
- Junior Jenny Quinn (Elmhurst, Ill.) recorded her first score of the game and senior Ellie Woodman (Janesville, Wis.) had her second marker of the contest with 22:28 remaining on the clock to give some breathing room back to Concordia Wisconsin.
- Augsburg answered with back-to-back goals before Kennedy and junior Jackie Lanum (Wadsworth, Ill.) made the scoreboard operator add a goal to the hosts' side of the scoreboard.
- From then on the Auggies picked up momentum with four goals in a row to tie the matchup at 10-10. Senior Lauren Paquin (Waukesha, Wis.) scored her second goal of the game with 9:42 to play, but the visitors quickly tied it back up at 11-11.
- Mikayla Knudson and Allie Tuccitto broke the Falcons goal of reaching the MWLC Tournament with goals late in the contest.
- Kennedy ended with a hat trick; while Paquin, Woodman and McPike each scored twice. Paquin also had four ground balls, three draw controls and five caused turnovers. Woodman caused a game-high-tying five turnovers.
- Freshman Kinsey Weyer (Stillwater, Minn.) made 11 saves in a complete game effort.
- Jones had four goals for Augsburg and Tuccitto recorded a hat trick. Maddie Seykora made 10 saves for the Auggies.

GAME NOTES
- Concordia Wisconsin will look to upset MWLC-leader Hamline on Sunday for its 10th win of the season, which would make it six-consecutive seasons with double-digit victories.
