Women's Hockey Cruises at King's on Black Friday

PITTSTON, Pa. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team squared off against King's College on Friday night for the first time in program history. The Falcons won the first-ever meeting with a 3-0 victory. The victory sends the flock to 8-2-0 on the year.

Sophomore Naomi Black (Ottawa, Ontario) started the Black Friday scoring four minutes into the game when she tipped in a rebound at the back door off a shot from freshman Scout Stromberg (Tomahawk, Wis.) after sophomore Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) won the faceoff.

Scout Stromberg scored 9:47 into the first period from the near corner off passes from junior Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) and senior Natalie Mackrell (Florissant, Colo.).

King's had a power play late in the first period, but freshman Gretchen Paaverud (Ramsey, Minn.) had three saves on the penalty kill.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the second period. The Monarchs once again had a power play late in the period, but the Concordia defense did not allow a goal.

In the third period, senior Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) scored an empty net goal, breaking into the zone on the right side off of a tap from senior Savannah Hutchins.

Gretchen Paaverud collected 10 saves in her first collegiate shutout.
