Women’s Hockey routs Lions, clinch NCHA playoff spot

HANCOCK, Mich. – Concordia Wisconsin shut out Finlandia 7-0 on Saturday, and that win along with St. Norbert's 4-2 loss to Adrian has secured the Falcons a spot in the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Falcons got out to a big lead early with a four-goal first period. Jossa Danis (Brandon, Manitoba) got the first goal for CUW at 1:56 in the opening frame. Emily Godwin (London, Ontario) followed a couple minutes later with a goal of her own. Natasha Wanless (Madison, Wis.) scored her team-leading 14th goal at 10:15, and Ally Hull (Wasilla, Alaska) scored the fourth of the period a minute later.
-The second period was relatively quiet for the Falcons as they scored only one goal, with Godwin capitalizing on a power-play opportunity to score her second of the night.
-In the final frame, Maddy Millar (Anchorage, Alaska) and Madi Chapman (Rogers, Minn.) each had goals for the Falcons.
-Concordia Wisconsin had a pair of goalies share the shutout. Christina Pattengale (Portage, Mich.) started and played the first two periods in goal, saving all 12 shots. Shea Petersen (Rhinelander, Wis.) played the third period and saved all nine shots on goal.
-The Falcons outshot the Lions 37-21.
