Women’s Hockey defeats St. Benedict

BLAINE, Minn. – Natasha Wanless scored twice for the Falcons as the Concordia Wisconsin Women's Hockey team defeated St. Benedict 4-2 to remain undefeated through the first weekend of this season. 

THE BASICS
-Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 4, St. Benedict 2

-Records: Concordia Wisconsin 2-0, Bethel 1-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Maddy Millar (Anchorage, Alaska) put the Falcons on the board halfway through the first period. The freshman was assisted on the goal by Emily Godwin (London, Ontario) and Issy Bilton (Burlington, Ontario).
-The Blazers scored to even the game early in the second period, but Wanless (Madison, Wis.) scored her first goal of the day later in the period to retake the lead for the Falcons.
-Wanless added a second goal early in the third period to give the Falcons some breathing room. Sam Lombardi (Ancaster, Ontario) followed with a goal to give CUW a three-goal lead. The Blazers would score once more in the final minute, but it was too little too late as the Falcons held on to win the game 4-2.
-Kristen Kennedy (London, Ontario), Jossa Danis (Brandon, Manitoba), and Millar each had an assist in the game.
-Christina Pattengale (Portage, Mich.) got her first start of the season in goal, saving 28 shots to help the Falcons stay undefeated through the first two games of the season. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
-This was the 10th game between Concordia Wisconsin and St. Benedict in Women's Hockey program history. The Falcons are 6-4 in the series and have won two in a row. The first meeting between these teams was on November 6, 2009.

UP NEXT
-The Falcons travel to face Lake Forest next weekend for a two-game series. The opening game is Friday, November 3, at 7:30pm.
