Women's Hockey falls in Slaats Cup Quarterfinals to St. Scholastica

Duluth, MN. – The Concordia Wisconsin University Women's Hockey team needed to come away with a win on Saturday night to continue on in the NCHA Slaats Cup and keep their season going. Unfortunately for the Falcons, St. Scholastica was able to come away with a 2-0 victory which ended the Falcons season.

THE BASICS
Final Score: St. Scholastica 2, Concordia Wisconsin 0
Location:
Mars Lakeview Arena (Duluth, MN.)
Records: St. Scholastica 16-6-5, Concordia Wisconsin 12-13-2

HOW IT HAPPENED
 - The third period proved to be the deciding factor, as the Saints were able to finally get the puck past sophomore Breanna Thomson (St. Marys, Ontario) and place the Saints up 1-0 9:19 into the final period. Giorgia Battisti was able to put in the final goal to end the Falcons season, when CUW pulled their goalie with 15 seconds remaining to try and score to extend the game. Thomson finished with 36 saves out of 37 shots.
- CUW's Thomson came out strong between the pipes and kept the Saints off the board, making 11 saves in the first period and stonewalling the Saints offensive attack. The Falcons tried to make the most of their opportunities but were only able to get 5 shots off at the net as St. Scholastica stood tough defensively and went into the break at a 0-0 tie.
-  The second period was much of the same as the first, with an aggressive offensive attack by the Saints, but once again Thomson was excellent by raking up 16 saves in the process. Concordia Wisconsin again was only able to get limited scoring opportunities as St. Scholastica  locked down the defensive zone and kept the score tied at 0-0 heading into the final period of regulation.
- Concordia Wisconsin was 0-for-3 on the power play and committed six infractions for 12 minutes. St. Scholastica's Lexi Thomeczek finished with 20 saves and Rachel Anderson had one goal along with Battisti.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons have been home to senior Lexi Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.), Amanda Curtin (Houston, Texas) and Chloe Bachman (St. Peter, Minn.). Holman has finished her Women's Hockey career ranked first in goals, goals per game, and power-play goals. She is also tied for most points in a game with five and owns the record for most assists in a game with five.
- The three seniors (Holman, Curtin and Bachman) are the winningest class in program history with 42 wins.
