Three-goal third period sends Saints past Women's Hockey

DULUTH, Minn. – St. Scholastica scored three times in the third period, two off the stick of Emily Stegora, resulting in a 5-2 setback for the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The score tied at two before the Saints controlled the third period. St. Scholastica scored once on the power play, once shorthanded, and one empty-net goal to pull away from the Falcons.

- Stegora had the first two goals, the game-winner coming on the power play 3:22 into the period. She would add a shorthanded score 6:42 into the final stanza while Greta Nundahl scored an empty-net goal with 1:51 left in the game.

- In the opening period, both teams scored in the 19th minute, the first coming from the Saints Denisa Lalikova. Just 35 seconds later, Jossa Danis (Brandon, Manitoba) lit the lamp to tie the score at one. Emily Godwin (London, Ontario) and Kristen Kennedy (London, Ontario) assisted on the Danis score.

- Sam Lombardi (Ancaster, Ontario) scored 8:12 into the second period to give the Falcons their only lead of the game, 2-1. Kennedy picked up her second assist of the game on the Lombardi goal. Alexia Klaas would make the score 2-2 on a goal with 4:35 left in the second.

- Breanna Thomson (St. Marys, Ontario) made 29 saves for the Falcons Friday. Lori Huseby stopped 26 shots in picking up the win for the Saints.

- The Saints had the advantage on special teams Friday, scoring one power play goal and one shorthanded. The Falcons finished the game 0-for-5 on the power play while the Saints had seven power play attempts.
