Danis lifts Women's Hockey with overtime winner

MEQUON, Wis. – Jossa Danis scored a power play, overtime goal with 1:42 left to lift the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team to a 3-2 win over Marian Saturday night. The win was the third straight for the Falcons, who are now 3-1 in NCHA play. Christina Pattengale, who made 35 saves, and the Falcons penalty kill played big roles in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Danis (Brandon, Manitoba) was the star of the night as she played a role in all three Falcons goals, assisting on the first two. Her power play score was scored with a 4-on-3 advantage after the Sabres were whistled for an interference penalty. Overtime starts with 4-on-4 hockey. Natasha Wanless (Madison, Wis.) and Ellie Woodman (Janesville, Wis.) assisted on the game-winning goal.

- The game went to overtime because of a Marian score with 17 seconds left in regulation. The Sabres pulled their goalie, Lindsey Strainis in favor of an extra attacker and it paid dividends as Paige Johnson sent the game to overtime. The officials needed to confer as it was hard to tell whether the goal was going to count or not, but it stood to tie the game at 2-2.

- The Falcons penalty kill was a big story Saturday as they held Marian to one score on nine power play chances. The lone Marian power play goal was a 5-on-3 score 4:57 into play. From there, the Falcons stopped all eight Sabres power play chances the rest of the way.  Jill Schneider had the Sabres power play score.

- CUW tied the game at one midway through the opening period on the first collegiate score by freshman Ally Hull (Wasilla, Alaska). Danis picked up her first point of the night with an assist on the play.

- The Falcons would go up with a score off the stick of sophomore Issy Bilton (Burlington, Ontario). Danis again added an assist on the score, which came 8:15 into the second period.

- Pattengale (Portage, Mich.) was outstanding between the pipes, making 35 saves, several of those with Marian on the power play. She was especially outstanding in a two-minute 5-on-3 for the Sabres, which began late in the first period.

- The Falcons will visit St. Norbert for a two-game NCHA series next weekend. The first game is set for Friday night at 7 p.m.
