THOMSON POSTGAME

HOW IT HAPPENED
- You could tell the Falcons were eager to get back on the ice Saturday as they came out firing with a goal 14 seconds into play. Kristen Kennedy (London, Ontario) netted the score with Lexi Holman and Natasha Wanless picking up assists on the play.

- The same trio played a role in the Falcons second goal, which came 7:47 into the opening stanza. This time it was the captain Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) with Wanless (Madison, Wis.) and Kennedy adding the assists.

- Two Lake Forest power play scores evened things at 2-2, but freshman Kaitlynn Lloyd (Rogers, Minn.) picked a good time for her first career collegiate goal, the game-winner with 2:32 left in the first period.

- Thomson (St. Marys, Ontario) was the story the rest of the game, stopping all 35 shots she saw over the final 40 minutes of play. Lake Forest pulled its goaltender in the final minute in favor of the extra attacker but Thomson and the Falcons stood strong to hold on for the win.

- Neither team spent much time in the box as the two combined for just four penalties. CUW was whistled three times for six penalty minutes, while Lake Forest just once for two minutes. The Foresters were 2-for-3 on the power play, CUW countered with a 0-for-1 attack.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The 45 saves are a career-best for Thomson. Her previous high was 38 last year against No. 4 Adrian.

- The Falcons win over Lake Forest was their first over the Foresters since November 15, 2014. CUW defeated Lake Forest at home, 3-0, on that date but had dropped its last nine in the series.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will host Marian for two NCHA games next week. The opener is set for Friday at 4:30 p.m. at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
