Augsburg deals Women's Hockey first loss of season

MEQUON, Wis. – Attempting to go 4-0-0 for the first time in program history, the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey struggled offensively and was shut out by Augsburg College Sunday afternoon. The Auggies scored once in each of the opening two periods, taking the non-conference contest by a 2-0 score.

Darby Lindgren scored both goals for the Auggies, while their goaltender, Brianna Schulz, made 20 saves in the victory. Falcons goalie Jennifer DeGeorge (Waukesha, Wis.) played well but took the loss despite making 30 saves. She now owns a 3-1-0 record this season in four starts. The Falcons struggled to get anything going offensively, especially early on as they combined for just 11 shots on goal in the first two periods.

The Auggies got on the board late in the opening period when Lindgren scored a power play goal 15:46 into the opening stanza. Kimmy Davis and Ashley Kloncz assisted what would go down as the game-winning goal. Lindgren made the score 2-0 9:10 into the second period, scoring off an assist from Kayla Fuechtmann.

The final 30-plus minutes of action saw no goals score as the final read 2-0. CUW had a pair of power play chances over the final 30 minutes, but Schulz remained strong in net, finishing with the shutout. CUW finished the contest 0-for-4 with an extra skater, while AC went 1-for-2 on the power play.

The Falcons will return to their conference schedule next weekend when they take on Lake Forest College in a home and home series. CUW will host the Foresters at 7:30 Friday night before playing on the road Saturday at 2 p.m.
